The Bronxville Scout Cabin is home to three Scout Troops and three Cub Packs.
The cabin serves scouts and the scouting community from all of Westchester County.
Troops and Packs meet at the scout cabin on a weekly or monthly basis.
The Bronxville Scout Cabin is home to three historic Scout Troops:
Troop 1 – Richard Dower, Scoutmaster – meets Mondays at 7:30 pm
Troop 2 – John G. Murtha, Scoutmaster – meets Tuesdays at 7:30 pm
Troop 4 – Dr. Howard Rakov, Scoutmaster – meets Thursdays at 7:30 pm
Youth aged 11-18 are eligible to become Scouts.
The Scout BSA Handbook serves as a guide to adventure, scouting, advancement, and scout values.
Scouts receive Merit Badges as they learn and master various skills and subjects.
More than 100 Scout Merit Badges allow young boys and girls to learn about camping, hiking, cooking, sports, crafts, science, trades, business, careers, history, first-aid, community service, wilderness survival, lashing, fire-building, and leadership.
Scouts advance through the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life.
The highest rank that can be earned by a Scout is the Eagle Scout award. An Eagle must not only earn 21 merit badges, but also complete an extensive service project that the Eagle plans and leads. Eagle Scouts represent Scout spirit for life, “Once an Eagle, always an Eagle.”
The Bronxville Scout Cabin has a long tradition of Cub Scouting and is home to three Cub Scout Packs.
Packs hosted by the Cabin include:
Pack 5 – Robert Deichert, Cubmaster – meets every other Friday of the month at 7 pm
Pack 115 – Chris Higgins, Cubmaster – meets the first Friday of the month at 7 pm
Pack 353 – meets the second Friday of the month at 7 pm
Youth in the first grade through sixth grade may join a Cub Scout Pack.
Cub Scouts and their parents work together to prepare the boys for Scouts.
Cub Scouts Advance through the ranks of: Cub, Bear, Wolf, and Webelos.
A Cub Scout begins their journey having fun learning about scouting values, outdoors, having fun working together, and how to serve their community.
The Cub Scout Packs are divided into “Dens” each with their own parent den leaders, and meet together as a Pack once a month.
Events such as the Pinewood Derby and Camping Overnights are highlights for the cub scouts. After completing Cub Scouts, the boys can join a Scout Troop.
The highest rank a Cub can earn is the Webelos Arrow of Light.
The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest values-based youth organizations.
The Scouting Units affiliated with the Bronxville Scout cabin are all members of the Four Rivers District
of the Greater Hudson Valley Council.

Boy Scout Troops hosted at the Bronxville Scout Cabin compete yearly in the Commander’s Cup, an internal competition during which points are awarded to units in a number of categories including unit attendance, marching and scout skills.
The Commander’s Cup is awarded to the unit with the most points at the June Court of Honor.
Currently the Commander’s Cup is held by Troop 4.
Outdoor activities are a key part of Bronxville Scouting. There are numerous camping and hiking locations throughout Westchester County and beyond. Boy Scouts camp and hike at locations including: Durland (Clear Lake), Pound Ridge, Roaring Brook, Appalachian Trail, Deer Lake, Ten Mile River, Harriman State Park, the Adirondacks, Catskill Mountains, Taconic State Park, and Delaware River Gap.
Troops camp year round, Fall, Spring, Summer, and Winter. They camp in tents, cabins, and lean-tos in sun, rain, and nnow.
Scouts also get to experience rappelling, rock-climbing, rafting, biking, orienteering, skiing, and canoeing throughout the Westchester country region and beyond.
Each summer, troops from Bronxville Scouting spend one to two weeks at Summer Camp. Our council offers multiple camp options at Read Scout Reservation (Camp Buckskin and Camp Waubeeka) in upstate New York.
Other Bronxville troops head to Rhode Island to Camp Yawgoog.
At all the camps, the scouts perfect their outdoor skills, earn multiple merit badges and participate in activities such as archery, rifle shooting, climbing, swimming, boating, and other water activities.
Bronxville Boy Scouts can challenge their outdoor adventure skills at multiple National High Adventure Bases, including the Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Minnesota, and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. There are also opportunities for scouts to challenge their bodies and minds at Maine High Adventure and Florida Sea Base.
Many of our Bronxville Scouts have experienced hiking a 12-day Philmont Trek, 10 day canoe trips in Maine and Minnesota, and some scouts have worked as Rangers or Staff at these wonderful High Adventure facilities.
Bronxville Scouts join with scouts from around the country approximately every 4-5 years at the Boy Scout National Jamboree. Troops from around the world also gather at the World Scout Jamboree, trade patches and learn about the spirit of scouts worldwide. Bronxville Scouts have attended many Jamborees at national and international locations.
The Order of the Arrow (OA) is the national honor society of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). It uses American Indian-styled traditions and ceremonies to bestow recognition on scouts selected by their peers as best exemplifying the ideals of Scouting.
Many members of Bronxville Scouting community have completed their OA ordeal.
