December 2024
Dear Friends of the Bronxville Scout Committee,
I write to you today with an update on our legal struggles, and on our local Scouting, which continues to thrive in our Lower Westchester area. I will also ask for your continued support.
We lost our first appeal against the County in the State Court of Appeals, and now we’re appealing that decision with the State’s Appellate Division. We don’t know yet if this court will hear our appeal. But please know that we are in this fight for the long haul, and we will pursue this effort as long as it takes for us to establish our indisputable right to remain in our Cabin, at our site, in perpetuity. This struggle with the County has been continuing on and off for around 70 years, and it is time for us to settle this matter once and for all. We’re tired of being interfered with and threatened by the County, when all we endeavor to do is to serve the youth of our community.
Despite this struggle, Scouting continues to thrive, thanks in part to our beautiful Cabin, its Committee, and all of the dedicated adult leaders, parents, and volunteers who together make Scouting an enriching and ennobling experience for the youth of Lower Westchester.
We currently serve Scouts from diverse communities: Yonkers, Scarsdale, Mount Vernon, Bronxville, Larchmont, The Bronx, Mamaroneck, Eastchester, New Rochelle, Tuckahoe, Harrison, West Harrison, and White Plains.
Over the past year, our Scouts have logged many hundreds of service hours; we’ve had 9 Scouts (and counting) become Eagle Scouts; we’ve done hikes, overnight camping, and summer Scout Camp; our Scouts have earned hundreds of Merit Badges and have continued their advancement. We’re building the future leaders of America, right here at our Cabin.
Speaking of which, our good old Scout Cabin continues to need ongoing maintenance and renovations, but we’re keeping this wonderful facility in good shape, making sure it’s available for the Scouts of tomorrow.
All of the above is costly, but with the help of kind benefactors like you, Scouting is thriving in our area.
May I ask once again for you to consider helping us in our mission to keep Scouting thriving in Lower Westchester?
Your generous contribution, tax-deductible to the extent of the law, will enable us to maintain and improve the Cabin, and continue to nurture and grow Scouting for all of our local youth, well into the future.
On behalf of the Bronxville Scout Committee, I thank you for in advance for any support you can offer!
Best wishes for the Holidays and for a Happy 2025!
Yours In Scouting,

Howard Rakov President
